sun is still beating down!) and Rideshare is
gearing up for some activities that will keep the
summer fun going, including the Rideshare Month's
Commute for Cash Challenge, our

Commute for
Cash Challenge We are very
excited about this brand new challenge
during Rideshare Month in October. We
plan to have events throughout
October featuring a different mode of
alternative transportation each week.
Our big kick-off event will be at Farmers' Market
on Thursday, October 1st and we will have the
kits available for you to pick up at
the mixer on Tuesday, September
15th. Each team of up to five
commuters, will be eligible to win that
weeks commute savings back in cash (limited to $75
per team member). To participate in the Commute
for Cash Challenge, individuals simply track their
qualifying trips online and at the end of each
week Rideshare will award some hard working
commuters with their loot. In addition,
there will be random individual daily prize
drawings AND every Friday in October Rideshare
will randomly give away one hundred dollars to one
of the lucky commute conscious participants.
There will be special events
each week to celebrate this month of multi-modal
mobility including free bus rides during Transit
Week (10/5-10/9), breakfast treats and much
more.
We will have all the information on
our website soon so start spreading the
word! |

The SLO Downtown Access Pass
This transit pass was introduced in
July (formerly known as the Gold Pass) and 48
downtown employees signed up and received the
pass. During July these folks took 745 rides
on SLO Transit, saving $931.25.
The purpose of this program is to reduce
congestion and maximize parking in the downtown
district and is valid only on SLO Transit to
employees who work in the downtown district (area
with parking meters). The pass can be
purchased at the City's Public Works Department or
Finance Department and to qualify for the pass,
purchasers must produce a recent pay stub and
photo ID. |

FunRide Car Sharing Launches
in SLO A new car sharing
service, featuring alternative fuel and hybrid
vehicles to lease by the hour, began operation in
July with three vehicles. FunRide is great
for commuters who occasionally need a vehicle to
run an errand or go out to lunch. To use the
service, you can join FunRide for $30 a year by
going to the website and clicking on the
Join Now button. Once you are approved you
receive a "fob" that lets you into any of the
FunRide vehicles. You get a login number and
password and you reservce the vehicles online, so
there are no lines to wait in or paperwork to
complete. Once you have your reservation,
you walk to the vehicle and swipe your fob over
the sensor on the windshield and the door
unlocks. The key is in the glove box and
away you go!
