| We're
Moving! |
Starting the beginning
of August you can visit us at our new
location, on the corner of Marsh & Santa Rosa
(1114 Marsh Street). Our contact information
will remain the same, except for the
address. We are busy packing and are excited
about our new home.
Please note that due to the move, we will be
closed the last week of July. Our new phone
system will not be functioning until August 4th,
but leave a message and we will check voicemail
frequently so that calls can be returned.

Hello Morgen,
We hope you are enjoying your
summer!
In this newsletter we're
excited to share with you the results of Bike
Month 2009, talk about our youth transit
program, The Summer Break Pass, and tell you about
our brand new Workplace Bike Sharing Program.
We'll also share our take on the Green House
Gas Inventory Report.

| Green House Gas
Inventory Report- What This Means For
You |
In
April, the County of San Luis Obispo released a
Green House Gas Emission Inventory Report. The
report concluded that 66.7% of Green House Gas
Emissions in our county are directly related to
transportation. Wow! Coming in second at 14.8% was
Commercial/Industrial. The bad news is apparent,
we drastically need to change the way we get
around in order to keep our air clean. The good
news is that transportation, specifically commuter
transportation, is something that we can do
something about. You, me, everyone. By
carpooling with just one other person, you can cut
your emissions by 50%. Remember, small steps
make a big difference. Encourage your
neighbors, family, coworkers to carpool, vanpool,
bus, bike or walk at least once a week
and help them work their way into a
healthy habit.
Let's try and reduce this number
together. With small steps, we can make a big
difference.

| Fun Facts of Bike
Month 2009 |
| Bike
Month was a huge success. Many thanks to all of
the community supporters, sponsors and individuals
who joined
the Chain Reaction. There were
over 57 free community bike events
in all areas of the County from Bike
Breakfasts, Bike-in Movie, Make the Grade/
Make the Coast ride, cycling safety &
education, bike art and fashion, Kidicle Mass and
more.
The Online Commuter Bike Challenge was
also a big success, focusing the
competition on people, not miles.
Organizations in five different size categories
competed to get the highest percentage of people
from their company, school group, club, etc.
riding bikes. Over 700 people representing
71 organizations registered in the online
challenge. Each participant received a Chain
Reaction T-shirt, was eligible for weekly prize
drawings and the winning teams (1 from each of the
5 size brackets) was awarded a free Firestone
Brewery tour and tasting, along with a recycled
glass trophy commemorating their
achievement.
Here are the results:
718 people registered
logged 13,761 trips
rode 43,038.48 miles
reduced 34,091 lbs. of harmful
emissions
and saved 1,292 gallons of
gas

| Summer Break
Pass |
| It's
not too late to purchase the Summer Break
Pass, a transit pass that works on all busses in
the county, all summer long, for kids K-12 for
only $30! The Summer Break Pass will get
your kids to the beach, skate parks, the mall,
movies, pools and much more - no parents included!
The
goal of this program is to encourage young people
(K-12) to use transit and build healthy commute
habits that will stick when they become
adults. Parents also benefit by
decreasing the amount of vehicle trips they make
during the summer months (decreasing dollars spent
on gas) and at the same time encouraging their
children to be independent commuters. Talk
about a win-win! Check the website
for
information and to purchase your
pass.
