Take the Challenge
Take part this
year in creating a tradition for your workplace by getting your coworkers in
this year’s Commuter Bike Challenge.
Bike Month is a national and local celebration encouraging
people of all ages and abilities to ride bikes instead of driving. The Bike
Month mission—more bikes, fewer cars, makes for a healthier community.
Form or Join a team and pledging to ride your bike to
work, errands or other trips during the month of May.
We can help you put together a team or get linked with other
teams. Each day you ride your bike, log your
miles and trips and you’ll be counted for your efforts. You’ll also be
able to track your progress and see how your team is doing against
other teams! At the end of the month we’ll give prizes to the teams
with the
most miles and trips.
Commuter Bike Challenge
Last year 368
people representing 47 teams took the challenge. These cyclists took 12,003
trips and rode 43,254 miles saving 2,060 gallons of gasoline. This added up to
removing 1,500 cars from our roadways for just one day! This year we are challenging the community to
rack up even more miles and trips!
It is easy to
get involved. Beginning April 1st you'll have
access to enter your team and information on the website - and add
photos and descriptions of your trips. Teams are made up of 4 - 10 individuals, who will track their bike miles and trips throughout the month of May. highest person in your department—we want to hear from you. This is your time
to put your pedal to the mettle and inspire others to do their part too.
Last year 36
high ranking officials and business people took the pledge to commute to work
by bike. This year we are asking executives to join a team and ride as much as
possible during the month. Executives who
participate in the challenge will once again have their signatures printed in
the Tribune on posters and will be invited this year’s opening event, the Front Wheel, and a post challenge
celebration Rear Wheel hosted by
Firestone Walker Fine Ales in Paso Robles.
