Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: I registered our 5 person carpool and have entered our trips and mileage since Oct. 1. and plan to enter info daily.  A couple of the 5 people in our carpool have now signed up as members.  Do they also enter our carpools trip and mileage? or does just one person do it for the whole carpool?
A: Great question! Each person must enter their trips, as this is the only way for us to know who is actually using alternative transportation on the team and who is not. Also, in order to be eligible to win the $100 individual prize and the cash team prizes, you must log a trip. In addition, we use the trips people have logged to come up with our calculations for cost savings and prizes. When you log your trips, you can indicate how many people you carpool with. This helps us prevent any double counting in miles/emissions.

Q: Thanks for the video clarifying how to log trips and mileage. Now I know I am doing it right. Thank you. I know it is too late to change the website but I wanted to share that I prefer the total trip and total mileage format compared to having the site multiply trips and mileage/trip. The reason is that if I stop at the bank on the way home I am not sure how to log it. If I ride to work and stop at the bank on the way home my trips look like this,
Trip 1 = 2 mi
Trip 2 = 4 mi
Trip 3 = 4 mi
In order to log this I either have to call it 3 trips a 3.33 mi per trip or 1 trip a 10 mi. I am not sure what you guys are looking for in terms of information. Are you more concerned with trip, mileage, the description, the day they happen on? I suppose I am just being picky but I want rideshare to be the best that it can be and that is why I am writing you. Help me help you help me.
A: Great question! Since you are on your way home when you stop at the bank, we would consider that “one” trip. Think of your “work” being the start point and your “home” being the end point with the bank happening in the middle. So, you could log that as “one” trip at 4 miles. Then, on the way to work, you can log “one” trip at 2 miles. That is two entries. The trips we are focusing on are trips that would otherwise be made in a car. Therefore, if you were in your car doing a bunch of errands, would you consider it one big trip or a bunch of small ones? In this case, it might be easier to consider it all as “one” big trip.

A: This is an answer to some overall questions we've been getting on how to fix incorrectly logged trips for the Commute for Cash Challenge: We've noticed some confusion on what a "trip" is for the Commute for Cash Challenge. A trip is ONE WAY. So, a roundtrip is actually 2 trips. Therefore, if you've been logging your trips incorrectly, here is a short video on how to fix your already logged trips. Or, check out these simple instructions.
